Hoar Frost with Sheep

It's coming says Jack Frost. I do love a good hoar frost and a winding path full of sheep. The autumn leaves on these massive old trees have yet to lose their leaves so warm days are still possible. Found on Instagram @wolfypic  He photographs in Scotland and England's Lake District. This is probably the Lake District where Beatrix Potter raised sheep. xo

Hello October

This photo just about sums up October, doesn't it? My driveway is filled with the spiky outer shells of my yearly chestnut crop, and the leaves are changing color. I love the red of the Virginia creeper that is the first vivid color to appear. So far I haven't had to turn on my heat but that time is coming soon. I love the crisp days of autumn while he leaves are still on the trees. via

Beautiful Fall Color in My Woods

I took this photo in my woods looking into the late afternoon sun. We have lots of yellow and the red leaves are just starting. I love the backlighting. xo

Such A Nice Fireplace

I cleaned out my fireplace this weekend and set a fire for the upcoming chilly weather. The one in this photo is gorgeous, isn't it? I never did polish my andirons when I was on that polishing marathon in the spring. Too late now, that ship has sailed. Smile. photo source

Golden Grasses in the Woods

Golden grasses in my woods on an overcast day. The trees are bare thanks to the windy days we've had lately. I actually got out my giant shop vac yesterday and sucked up lots of leaves around the perimeter of my cottage and barn in the back. It was too cold in the shade to do the same thing in the front. I'm saving that task for tomorrow. Enjoy your Sunday. xo

Frost at My Cottage this Morning

Frost is one of my favorite photography subjects. My hands were freezing when I took off my gloves but all the while I was wishing I had gone outside just a little earlier. The morning sun had already started melting the frosty outlines of the leaves.

Red Leaves: Too Pretty to Rake

These beautiful leaves were decorating the lawn at a real estate showing yesterday. The intense color of these red Japanese maple leaves was unreal. If they were at my house, I wouldn't rake them either!

Red Leaf Still Life

This one was too pretty to rake into the pile so I set it aside for a photo session.

My Handsome Companion

Webster loved being outside yesterday in the nice fall weather. He "helped" me rake leaves and he slept like a log after being out in the fresh air and so did I. We both woke up this morning before the alarm went off even though we "lost" an hour because daylight savings time ended.

I really did adjust the position of my sundial yesterday when it was in full sun. It registered 1:00 and I turned it back to noon. I'm always amazed at the accuracy of this timekeeper.

Gorgeous Day at My Cottage

We have a glorious week ahead of us. No rain for 7 straight days and daytime temps in the 60s and 70s. Yippee. I see a lot of raking in my future and maybe some mowing towards the end. I like to crunch up the leaves with my Snapper in certain areas instead of raking them. The American chestnut has dropped all of its leaves on my lower driveway and I must rake them because all of those dreadful pricker balls are hurting poor Webster's feet. He tries to dodge them but there are way too many.

Oak Leaf Hydrangea Leaves in the Fall

I took this photo at a realtor open house on Sunday. I do love the shape of these leaves and they way they change color in the fall. So lovely. It's cool and overcast today and will rain tomorrow. I really can't complain because we need it. xo

Colorful Maple Leaves Reflected

The glowing maples in the woods next to my cottage look prettier reflected on my car windows than they do in person. They look like they are on fire!

PS: I posted about a great 2007 movie I watched recently called The Water Horse. I found the complete movie on YouTube. WATCH IT HERE. Yay!

Fall Foliage In Back of My Cottage

As you can see, the trees are still mostly green. The field grass has also recovered from the lack of rain over the summer. From my front windows I can see more color in the sugar maples diagonally across the street. Gas prices are very low too and that pleases me since I've been driving much more than usual showing houses. Enjoy this beautiful day. xo

Beautiful Fall Day

There are many more acorns this year than last. I hope that's a sign. Hoping for plenty of nice winter weather instead of plenty of snow.
